The Recipe
A careful selection of precious herbs for a firm and balanced recipe
An exclusive blend of 30 herbs and spices from all over the world for a unique taste that comes from the constant use of the original recipe, which has survived to the present day. All 30 bitter herbs and roots, the main ones being sweet oranges from Sicily, bitter oranges from Curaçao, star aniseed and cardamom, are clinically selected, weighed, reduced to powder to extract the aromas, following strict monitoring procedures and analysis. The extracts thus obtained are mixed with alcohol and caramelized sugar. The recipe is still the same and remains a secret, which continues its course today through the use of the most contemporary techniques of production.
The main ingredients
Of all the ingredients, six contribute to creating the unique taste of our ‘Amaro’: vanilla, cinnamon, liquorice, clary sage, sweet orange and peppermint
Liquorice
Digestive, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant and protective of gastric mucosa. Indicated for cough, sore throat, catarrh, cervical and gastric acidity, it also has a mild laxative function. In the past, liquorice became famous for its thirst quenching properties.
Cinnamon
The therapeutic properties of cinnamon are many and already were known of by the Egyptians and the Romans. It is a powerful natural antioxidant, stimulates blood circulation and helps fight cholesterol. It has antibacterial antiseptic, stimulant and digestive properties (also used in Ancient Egypt for the embalming of the dead).
Vanilla
Natural antiseptic but also a precious sedative, it is in fact very useful for combating stress and defeating insomnia. The particular aroma of vanilla is given by the presence of vanillin, a polyphenol with antioxidant properties that helps keep the body young by counteracting the action of free radicals.
Peppermint
It is attributed to healing and to having disinfectant properties. It is useful for gastro-intestinal disorders, helps liver function and promotes digestion. Contains menthol, vitamin C, antibiotic substances, limonene and isovalerates.
Sweet orange
Used for its taste and its fragrance, it also increases the immune system against viruses and bacteria, prevents cardiovascular disorders and performs an anti-stress action. Oranges slow down degenerative forms of tumours, thanks to the strong antioxidant action exerted against free radicals.
Clary sage
Also known as muscatel, clary wort and ‘Santa Lucia’s grass,’ it has antifungal, anti-infective, antisudoriferous, estrogen-like, neurotonic, parasympatholytic, phlebotonic and regenerative properties.
